Assessing a GP locum

Practice staff should see current copies of the following documents on or before the locum's first day. The relevant documents are:

You can download my CV

You can check a doctor's status on the medical register.

Practice managers (or their deputies) should see current copies of the actual documents, and make a photocopy for their own records.

Ideally a brief interview should be conducted before work commences, preferably in person, or failing that, by telephone. References should be sought, supplied, and taken up.

As the arrangements for Personal Development Plans are implemented, practice managers may wish to satisfy themselves that the locum GP's portfolio is up-to-date, and, particularly if the locum is to be a prolonged one, offer appropriate practice resources to enable the locum's continuing development.
