Hi Trevor, I often think of you, as each time I address an email to Trevor Parsons your name pops up first :-) I'm going to be in the BMJ office next week as it happens, but on my cyber travels I've come across a couple of sites that might make a nice WoW, combined with a brief discussion of the trend towards application service provision (ASP) as the business model of the future. The two illustrative sites outsource the control of the supply of doctors' time. One is a locum site for GPs: http://www.locum123.com; the other enables on-line rota booking for doctors in hospitals; http://www.rotadoc.com. I have no axe to grind for either site, other than that I think they are interesting examplars of the future. They typify niche products closely oriented to a particular application, and are analogous to what the big boys are doing a more generic way (see for example http://www.oraclesmallbusiness.com/ or Microsoft's .NET malarky) I know you'd want to link it with a topical item in the journal. I don't think there's any particular rush to do it. (And no hard feelings if you don't want to touch it at all). Best wishes D. -- Douglas Carnall tel:+44 (0)20 7241 1255 fax:08700 557879 mob:07900 212881 http://www.carnall.org/ dougie@carnall.org
